Social Media is now critical for businesses, too

Social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) isn’t just about individuals “liking” funny pictures or tweeting what they ate for breakfast. Social media is an important, emerging channel that small and large businesses are taking advantage of. In fact, research shows that Social Media is now the top online activity, with the average American spending 37 minutes there each day and 46% looking to it before making a purchase.

Here are 3 social media tips for businesses that can help generate interest and sales leads.

  • It builds a loyal following. Building a relationship with potential customers is a critical first step on the way to more awareness and sales. Since social media connections are really about people-to-people, marketing departments can nominate “spokespeople” to carry on human interactions with followers. This helps companies to know their audience online, communicate, and share information.
  • Social media is a dialogue. Companies that only use social media to blast out messages about themselves aren't using social channels effectively. The goal is to interact with others and be helpful. When you share content on social media, don't always post something that relates to your company, products or services. Share links to other interesting things you've found online that are pertinent to your audience. They’ll be thankful.
  • Publishing and sharing content that directs traffic to targeted landing pages is the single biggest lever to increase lead generation through social media. Share your new content offers by posting links to landing pages, and in addition, share blog posts, discounts, and other important resources.
